Project Overview
We had just finished a restaurant with the Dukes team when the owner, Duke Moscript, brought us to a building that he was considering leasing. It was a large two-story office building on the shore of Lake Union. Nothing about it looked like a restaurant other than the location. Duke told us that us that he actually used to have a restaurant there in the early 90’s and was going to figure out how to make it work. The best feature was the outstanding view from the deck, but it was much too small to fit enough tables. After several rounds of design, he came up with the idea of removing the exterior wall and windows and moving it in about 10 feet to make the deck larger. And, by the way, there was going to be a fishing boat on the roof and the customers would walk up through it to get the second-floor restaurant. It sounded crazy, but we went to work helping to try to figure out how to make it happen. After a complete gut of the existing interior, extensive structural work, rot repair and a lot of head scratching we made Duke’s vision come true. There is an event space (Dockside at Dukes) on the first floor with a separate kitchen that is able to host large events. The second floor has a beautiful restaurant with the best deck in Seattle. And the boat is awesome.
